Yesterday, I was shocked to hear of the death of Davy Jones of The Monkees.
Davy meant a lot to me. A childhood hero and someone I continued to admire all my life. This life long affection for Davy was not just born of the TV show or the music. It is down to the fact that my perception of Davy, is that he was a fantastic human being. A good guy. A lovely man.
Last year, at The Royal Albert Hall, I fulfilled the long held ambition of seeing The Monkees (albeit without Mike Nesmith) perform. Myself and my wife had an unforgettable evening, as these three distinguished gentlemen, along with an amazing backing band, performed a ridiculously brilliant, forty song set. Forty songs! And that's what makes Davy's passing even more shocking. He was in great shape that night. My thoughts and prayers are with the ones he left behind.
Rest In Peace, Davy Jones.
Monkee Heart:
The Monkees.
A sum of parts.
American blood.
Pumped by an English heart.
